Marquita Harris is a seasoned journalist with a passion for people, creativity, and uncovering stories in overlooked places.
For three years she worked as the Senior Editor for Essence magazine, seamlessly working for both the print and digital platforms. In this role, she expanded the Work & Money section, launched three successful editorial franchises, and hosted various live events.
During this period at Essence, she also created UnBossed, a career-oriented podcast centered on having honest conversations about work, money, and career.
Marquita has also worked for Refinery29, editing the entertainment, travel, and money sections as well as writing features, op-eds and trending stories. She’s also worked as a freelancer for several years contributing stories to numerous fashion and lifestyle publications.
A “Jill of many media trades,” Marquita is also an award-winning magazine creator, who has conceptualized, strategized and monetized independently published magazines for niche markets in the U.S., U.K., and Asia. This includes Top Rank Magazine (2015), an inclusive Brooklyn-based publication focusing on women creatives.
After spending more than a decade in the business as a writer and editor Marquita has cultivated an expansive career that has touched various areas of media as well as her personal passions, including fashion, culture, and travel.
Marquita Harris is an alumna of The London College Of Fashion where she received her MA in journalism. She is also recognized as a Harold Tillman Scholar.
